Frequently Asked Questions
Climbing
What clothes should I wear?
The Adventure Uniform
- The Footwear: Close-toed shoes are non-negotiable. If you show up in flip-flops, sandals, or heels, you’re staying on the ground. Sneakers or hiking boots are the way to go. You want something with grip for those high-altitude crossings.
- The Fit: Wear clothing that actually fits. Anything baggy or dangling is a potential “gear-grabber” for cables and ropes.
- The Details: Long hair needs to be tied back, and loose jewelry should stay in the car. Think “streamlined.”
- The Hands: Gloves are a game-changer. They protect your grip and keep you moving comfortably. You can bring your own (leather-palmed gardening or sports gloves work great) or snag a pair from us when you book your tickets.
- The Weather: We’re out in the elements, so dress for the day. If it’s chilly, layer up. It’s better to have a jacket you can shed than to be shivering 40 feet up.
What equipment is provided?
We’ve got you covered on the technical side. Your admission ticket includes a full-body pro-grade harness and our “Always Attached” climbing system. You don’t need to bring any specialized climbing gear. In fact, for safety reasons, you have to use ours. We keep our equipment dialed in and inspected so you can focus 100% on the obstacles ahead. Just bring yourself (dressed for action) and we’ll handle the rest.
Do you have food at the Park?
Our brand-new food truck, The Munch Mobile, is parked and ready to serve.
On the Menu:
- The Classics: We’re flipping burgers and serving up hot dogs to keep everyone fueled.
- The Essentials: Grab quick snacks and ice-cold drinks to stay hydrated and energized.
- Pro-Veggies: We’ve got solid vegetarian options, too, so nobody gets left behind.
Pro Tip: Check out the Munch Mobile hours & full menu here before you arrive. It’s the perfect place for observers to hang out with a snack while they watch the rest of their squad crush the courses overhead.
Can we bring our own food?
Absolutely. You’re more than welcome to bring your own spread. We’ve got plenty of spots for you to park and refuel. One Hard Rule: No alcohol is permitted on the property. We’re all about high-altitude fun, and we need everyone’s head in the game.
Do I have to pay for parking?
Parking is 100% free. We’ve got plenty of space, so you won’t have to hunt for a spot or dig for spare change. Just roll in, park the rig, and head straight to check-in.
What are the driving directions?
You can find a Google Map on our Contact Page. Address: 16701 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring, Maryland 20860.
Can the ropes course operate in the rain?
Absolutely. The Adventure Park is open rain or shine, and honestly, some of our favorite climbs happen when the forest is misty and cool. The Safety Cut-off: We’re tough, but we aren’t reckless. We only pause the action for the serious stuff—think heavy downpours that kill visibility, thunderstorms, or high winds. Wind Protocols: If things get gusty, we might temporarily close the higher, more exposed trails while keeping the lower ones open. Pro Tip: Don’t let a drizzle cancel your plans. Just dress the part. Grab a light, moisture-wicking jacket and you’ll be the coolest person in the canopy. If we are forced to shut down due to a major storm, we’ll make sure you get a voucher to come back another time.
Can I make changes to my reservation?
You’re in total control of your booking. If you need to swap the date, shift your start time, or change the number of climbers, you can handle it yourself in seconds. Self-Service: Dig up that confirmation email and hit “Manage Reservation.” That’ll take you straight to your portal where you can tweak the details. The Specialty Swap: If you’re looking to change your ticket type (like upgrading from a standard 3-hour climb to a Glow in the Park event) or you need to adjust your glove count, just drop us a message through that same portal. Our team will jump in and get you sorted. Pro Tip: Don’t wait until the last minute. If you know your cousin is flaking or your group wants to move to a morning slot, make those changes early to ensure the gear and the space are waiting for you.
Axe Throwing
Can I bring my own axe or other throwing equipment?
We appreciate the craftsmanship of a personal blade, but for safety and insurance reasons, you’ve gotta leave your own axes and throwing gear at home. But we’ve got you covered. We provide pro-grade throwing axes that are perfectly balanced and maintained for our targets.
Do you have throwing knives or stars?
Right now, we are strictly an axe-throwing operation. We don’t have knives or stars in the rotation because there’s nothing quite like the weight and power of a well-thrown axe sticking a bullseye.
Do you offer group or party packages?
Absolutely. From birthdays and bachelor/bachelorette parties to just a high-stakes hangout with your besties, we’ve got packages designed to level up your experience. We offer a variety of options depending on how many people you’re bringing and what kind of event you’re running. To see the full breakdown of rates and how to book the lanes for your crew, head over to our Group & Party Axe Throwing page.
Can I do climbing and throwing at the same time?
You can absolutely stack climbing and axe throwing into a single visit. In fact, we’ve made it a no-brainer with our Climb & Throw Bundle. The Perk: If you book both activities for the same day, you’ll save 25% on your axe throwing session. It’s the perfect way to reward yourself with some target practice after you’ve conquered the canopy. How to Play: Timing is everything. You’ll want to make sure you give yourself enough room between your climbing session and your lane time so you aren’t rushing.
Park Info
Is the Adventure Park certified?
We take the “safety first” thing seriously so you can focus 100% on the fun. The Adventure Park is part of an elite group of parks worldwide recognized as accredited operations by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT).
The Pedigree:
- Swiss Engineering: The Park was designed by Swiss alpine mountaineers—the masters of high-altitude movement.
- Strict Standards: We are built and maintained to ACCT specifications, which are among the most rigorous ropes course safety standards on the planet.
- Pro Maintenance: Our crew performs daily inspections to ensure every cable, clip, and platform is dialed in and ready for action.
Do you make charitable donations?
We’re huge fans of supporting the people who support us. Every year, The Adventure Park hands out hundreds of tickets to local charities and community fundraisers. If you’re out there doing good work and looking for a killer prize for your next auction or event, we want to hear from you. To get the ball rolling and see if your organization qualifies, just drop us a line at [email protected]. Our team will review the details and see how we can help your cause reach new heights. Pro Tip: When you email us, make sure to include the date of your event and a little bit about who you’re helping. The more info we have, the faster we can get those tickets into your hands!
Is the Park hiring?
We’re always on the lookout for high-energy people who are ready to level up their work life. Whether it’s helping guests find their “tree legs” on the trails or keeping the vibes high at check-in, being part of the Park team is a total rush. To see our current openings and find out which roles are ready for a new recruit, head over to our Employment Page.
If I come to the Park often, do I have to complete the safety briefing every time?
If you’re a frequent flyer, you don’t have to sit through the full briefing every single time you visit.
How to Skip the Line:
- Step 1: Complete the safety briefing and a climb at least once during the current season.
- Step 2: Take our Safety Briefing Bypass Quiz. It’s short, sweet, and proves you know your gear.
- Step 3: Pass the quiz, and we’ll issue you a Bypass Card. This is your “Golden Ticket.” Show it at check-in to skip the briefing and head straight to harnessing.
Your card also tracks the hardest course color you’ve conquered, so you’ve always got a record of your “high score.” Pro Tip: Keep in mind that these bypasses reset at the end of each calendar year. It’s our way of making sure everyone’s skills stay sharp for the new season. If you’re planning on hitting the park once a month, this is the ultimate time-saver!
Gift Cards & Passes
Does the Park offer gift cards?
Our gift cards are fully customizable for any amount, giving your crew the freedom to choose their own adventure.
Where They Work:
- The Full Park Experience: Use them for any climbing, zipping, or axe-throwing session.
- The Trading Post: Perfect for snagging some pro-grade gloves, a souvenir tee, or extra gear.
The Fine Print: Just a heads-up: these aren’t valid at the Munch Mobile (they have their own separate tab), but they never expire. Any unused balance stays on the card for their next visit. Pro Tip: Head over to our Gift Page to grab yours. Whether it’s for a birthday, a graduation, or just because, an Adventure Park gift card is basically a “best day ever” in digital form.
Does the Park offer gift certificates?
If you want to gift a specific experience without worrying about the price tag, our Gift Certificates are the way to go. Instead of a dollar amount, these are tied directly to a specific ticket type.
The Options:
- Child Ticket: For the 6-year-old groms.
- Junior Ticket: For the ages 7–11 crew.
- Adult Ticket: For everyone 12 and up.
Each certificate covers the full cost of one climb with taxes and fees included. They don’t expire, and they’re fully transferable. When you buy one, you get a unique gift code that the recipient can use to lock in their reservation whenever they’re ready to hit the canopy. Pro Tip: These are the ultimate “easy button” for birthday presents. You don’t have to guess what the current rates are. Just buy the ticket, hand it over, and let them handle the booking. Grab yours over on our Gift Page.
What’s the difference between a gift card and a gift certificate?
Here’s the quick breakdown so you can decide which one fits the vibe:
- The Gift Card: You load these with any custom dollar amount. They’re super flexible. The recipient can use them for climbing, axe throwing, or gear at the Trading Post. If they don’t use it all at once, the balance stays on the card for next time.
- The Gift Certificate: These are “one-and-done.” They cover the exact cost of a single General Admission climb (Child, Junior, or Adult). There’s no math involved for the person you’re giving it to. They just enter the code and they’re booked.
Alex’s Pro-Tip: If you want them to have the full experience (maybe a climb and a pair of gloves), go with the Gift Card. If you just want to say, “Hey, your next climb is on me,” the Gift Certificate is the cleanest way to do it.
How can I check my gift card balance?
Since our gift cards never expire, it’s always a good move to verify your balance before you book your next adventure.
How to get the info:
- Give us a shout: Call the office at (240) 623-5512 and we’ll look it up for you in real-time.
- Drop an email: Send a quick note to [email protected] with your card details, and our team will get back to you with your current total.
Pro Tip: Have your gift card number ready when you call or email. It makes the process lightning-fast. If you find out you’re a few bucks short for the whole squad, you can always top it off or cover the difference when you make your reservation online.
