It’s Not About Axe Throwing. It’s About Axe Sticking.

Outdoor axe throwing at The Adventure Park in Sandy Springs, MD

Anyone can throw an axe. Gravity, a little shoulder, and there it goes. The real thrill — the part that makes grown adults whoop and kids ask for “just one more turn” — is when that blade buries itself in the target with a solid thunk. That’s the moment we’re selling at Adventure Axes, the outdoor axe-throwing venue tucked inside The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring.

And we’ve done a lot to make sure that moment happens for you.

Engineered to Stick

Here’s a dirty secret of the axe-throwing world: most targets are built wrong. Slap an axe at the flat face of a plank and you’re fighting the wood grain — the blade skims, bounces, and clatters to the floor. Frustrating on your first throw. Worse on your fiftieth.

We built our lanes around end-grain targets instead. That means the wood fibers run toward you, not across. When your axe meets the target, the blade slips between the fibers and wedges itself in. Throws that would glance off a cheaper setup sink in like the wood was waiting for them. Beginners stick axes on their first try. Regulars spend less time retrieving and more time competing.

It’s a small detail most venues skip. We obsessed over it, because a lane full of bounce-outs isn’t fun — and sticking it is the whole point.

Targets That Play Back

On top of the end-grain, we project digital game boards onto every target. Dozens of games, from the classic bullseye to tic-tac-throw to a full game of Connect Four. Swap modes between rounds, mix skill levels in the same lane, and keep it interesting long after the novelty of “I threw an axe!” wears off.

Less lumberjack contest, more bowling with axes.

Outdoors, Under the Trees

The whole experience sits outside, under covered lanes, so you get fresh air and the sounds of the park without worrying about the weather ruining your aim. Pair it with the climbing courses next door and you’ve got a full day. (Book both on the same day and you’ll save 25% on your lane time through the Climb & Throw bundle.)

Built for Everyone Who Can Lift an Axe

Adventure Axes is open to ages 10 and up, with younger throwers accompanied by an adult. First-timers and seasoned stickers are equally welcome — and because the targets are built to reward good throws, the learning curve is short. Our coaches will have beginners landing their first sticks within a few throws. Each of the four lanes fits up to six people, which makes it a natural fit for birthdays, team outings, scout troops, or a Saturday with the family.

Hungry? The Munch Mobile food truck is parked a short walk from the lanes, so refueling between rounds is easy.

Come Stick Something

Reserve a lane, bring close-toed shoes, and leave the rest to us. The axes are sharp, the targets are right, and your bullseye is waiting.
